In Photoshop, feathering refers to softening the edges of a selection. When you apply a feather, it creates a gradual transition between the selected area and its surroundings, making the edge look smooth and blended instead of hard or jagged.
Feathering is especially useful when:
- Blending two images together
- Creating soft vignettes or glowing effects
- Making selections for retouching or composite work look more natural
You can apply feathering when making a selection (Select > Modify > Feather) or adjust it later via Select and Mask.
